Great tour with an enthusiastic guide
Reviewed October 6, 2018

We did a 5 hour tour of Ephesus with Tugrul Sokmen. He is an excellent guide, very knowledgeable and an avid historian. He has such a genuine love of the history of Turkey that you cannot help but get swept up in his enthusiasm. He spoke very good English and made the history so interesting. I found Tugrul very professional and he always responded quickly to any queries I had without any pressure to book. This tour was one of the highlights of our cruise. Tugrul was waiting for us at the port and quickly escorted us to his minivan. We reached the site before the buses so we were the only ones in the Ephesus Amphitheatre, which was very special. The tour wasn't rushed and he explained the buildings in detail. Coming from remote New Zealand it was hard to grasp the sheer historical magnitude of the area. It is advantageous to research as much as you can before your visit. Although we had limited time Tugrul also took us to Mary's house, Basilica of St. John and the Ephesus Archaeological Museum. Tugrul was very patient and accommodating. It is definitely worthwhile booking a private tour. The personal guidance is invaluable given the huge amount of information you take in over the course of the tour. I would highly recommend Tugrul as an Ephesus tour guide. He also does a range of Turkish tours that sound just as enticing. Wonderful to see someone enjoying his vocation so much.
